Mt. Pleasant is a vibrant community in the midst of an urban reformation renaissance that is vital to the economic future of Greater Cleveland.

A quick glance at Mt. Pleasant shows a community of hardworking people no different than any other complex urban neighborhood where people confront the daily challenges of keeping food on the table, having well-educated children and living in homes on neighborhood streets that are clean, orderly and safe from dark crimes.

Beautiful Home

But take a closer look. See that Mt. Pleasant is indeed uniquely different from other communities because of its historical sense of pride and its characteristic heroic passion for change, growth and community activism. Behind the laughter there is singing, praying, picnicking, parades, and day-to-day bustle of activity along Kinsman Road, is a lifeblood and vitality that is as comforting as a breeze swirling through the leaves on the maple trees found throughout the community.

This Mt. Pleasant Community website provides visitors an opportunity to see the difference and how neighborhood leaders, political leaders, residents, local businesses, organizations, families, friends and every day people are constantly engaged in a collective effort for the “Mt. Pleasant Community… A Pleasant Place to Be.” This is not just a visionary phrase, but a mirror of the present and the future.

'Luscious' Luke Easter

"Luscious" Luke Easter - Strong, courageous, and beloved as a baseball player and as a man.

Luke Easter's contribution as a resident of the Mt. Pleasant Community extended far beyond his career as a power hitting first baseman for the Cleveland Indians. The smiling face you see memorialized in this bust that sits in the park that was renamed in 1980 in his honor, serves to remind Greater Cleveland that he was as well-known for his friendliness, warmth, and generosity of spirit as he was for his ability to hit towering home runs. William M. McVey, a nationally known Cleveland sculptor, was commissioned to create the bust of Luke Easter after he met an untimely death when he was killed by two armed gunman who robbed him at a suburban bank. The completed monument stands seven feet tall and, at the time it was erected, it was the first project of its kind to be executed entirely in Cleveland.
